The integral armrest serves two important functions. First, the wider area and round profile provide a comfortable area to rest the forearm. Second, it keeps the forearm off the top of the guitar, allowing the guitar top to vibrate more freely, and helps to preserve the delicate French Polish finish.
This isn't a standrad feature, but it is recommended for Doubletop Guitars, where we're trying to wring out everybit perfomance we can form the top.
